A Mustang Had 9 Owners in 9 Years and His Time Was Up

We wanted to introduce you to the newest member of our herd, Reggie!

Reggie is a 9-year-old Nevada mustang from the Fox Hog Herd Management Area in the High Rock Complex. He has quite the story.

Reggie was rounded up as a foal in 2011 and was adopted for the first time in 2015. He was returned 2 weeks later, adopted again, and returned again. He was sent to a TIP trainer, and was adopted and subsequently returned, twice more. In total, he has had 9 owners in 9 years.

His last owner felt that they had run out of options with Reggie, concerned that he was unpredictable when ridden and didn't want to risk him hurting someone.  She contacted MCR to see if we had space for Reggie.

We were his last hope. We had to give him a chance.

Reggie won’t go into our training program but will become part of our companion horse crew, making friends with other mustangs that were not appropriate for training but are friendly and enjoy human interaction.

Stories like Reggie’s are all too common for mustangs, and it’s why we continue the work every day to keep wild horses on public lands.

Please consider making a contribution towards the care of Reggie and the over 220 wild horses and burros we look after here at Montgomery Creek Ranch.
